Hi! Welcome back! In this post, I will discuss how I came to my final topic, writing the proposal, and conducting a research assessment on my more specific topic.
The past week in ISM has been thrilling, as I have found a specific area of Data Analytics to focus on, in addition to finalizing my topic and writing the proposal. I conducted a research assessment on a specified article rather than annotations for five papers. I narrowed my search of exploration further to a single study and learned more from a single source.
As I progressed in my independent research, I found that my interest lies in human behavior, analysis, and business, so perhaps I should combine the three. After researching and revisiting prior assessments, I came to the topic of data-driven business marketing. Coming into ISM, I intended to learn how to leverage data to make better decisions so that I could apply it to my startup, so finding this convergence of business, technology, marketing, and statistics was exhilarating. I realized it was the right topic when I wrote a page about why I wanted to explore it.
I explored an article by McKinsey & Company that discussed the new normalization of data-driven marketing. I could interpret the information seamlessly and was able to connect the dots to the classroom content of microeconomics, statistics, and psychology. It was utterly enthralling to see how data is used to market more effectively to consumers and how businesses can maximize their profit margin for a good or service.
I feel that with every day I spend outside of my comfort zone, I have grown and developed personally and professionally. I have gained an immense amount of new knowledge through my study of data analytics and its applications. However, there is always room to improve (and still is). I have a long way to go, but I am hopeful for the foreseeable future and am excited to apply my newfound knowledge to the real world!
The possibilities of the future are endless, but I am determined to be well-equipped for an ever-changing world.
Thank you for reading! I hope to see you back next time.
