Hi! Welcome back! In this post, I will be talking about the process of writing my first research assessment for ISM.
This week in ISM, I completed my first research assessment. These research assessments allow us to reflect and test our understanding of what we have learned, and how it may benefit us for future assessments and projects.
My first dive into the vast field of data analytics took an unexpected turn. Originally, I thought of starting my research off focusing on finance or perhaps real estate, however, every article I read did not spark my interest (to be fair, I merely skimmed through them) until I came across an article about healthcare analytics. I started researching more into healthcare analytics and came across an introductory article that explained how we can use data for better health.
Healthcare analytics is a method of data analysis that focuses on using data to improve patient care and the administration of health care. Analyzing data can help predict statistical trends of the level of stress in a group of people, the levels of disease transmission by age worldwide, quality of life, etc. We can interpret this data use it to improve preventative care, improve efficiency in healthcare administration, and much more.
Data plays a substantial role in every industry, whether you are a lawyer, investment banker, software engineer, or real estate agent. The role data plays in the healthcare industry is crucial for an efficient and effective flow of work for hospital staff and healthcare professionals, as hospitals in the United States typically see approximately 114 million patients in a year, patients registered with a vast amount of data (both quantitative and categorical) from age to insurance provider. After doing this research, I feel very inclined towards exploring this field more, possibly for another research assessment, although, throughout my research, I came across multiple new pieces of information that added to my learning – such as recognizing statistical bias, deriving statistical trends, and quantitative health science.
What I can take away from this week of exploration is that I am in the right field of study, except perhaps it will take slightly longer than I realized to figure out which industry of study is fascinating and suitable for my interests and goals. I feel my research skills have expanded ever more and that I have started developing personally. Starting my research off with healthcare analytics was a virtuous start in my exploration of the vast field of data analytics; I am eager to continue with my research in this fascinating field.
Thank you for reading! I hope to see you back next time.
