Hi! Welcome back! In this post, I will be discussing my experience and further exploration of the field of Data Analytics by conducting my second research assessment. I will also talk about my LinkedIn profile and creating my resume.
This week in ISM, I completed my second research assignment. This research assignment was to find five academic journal articles – or anything else, such as books or reports – to learn more about. After exploring the material, I was to write annotations for each bibliography. This particular assignment was to provide us with the platform to explore different aspects of our topic and find something we could use for future projects.
It was trying to sift through such detailed journals and papers utilizing terminology and language that I had yet to understand. However, after spending a considerable amount of time researching, I found documents at my current level of understanding and reports that utilized forms of information visualization – such as tables – which helped me better understand what each document was about. After reading through these papers, I could interpret what each author was trying to prove (hypothesis), and the role data plays in every field. It placed me in a trance, contemplating why and how all these different fields utilize data or data analysis in general.
I am mindful that to apply my research to either my original work this semester or my final product in the next, I will need to conduct an in-depth analysis of multiple data sets and possibly compare them. However, I realized that I still need to build and enhance my skills to do so, as data analysis is rigorous, time-consuming, and uses tools and techniques that I am unfamiliar with.
My professional network is yet to commence, although a small-scale trend in profile views and search appearances has arrived. Even though the number of profile views (8) and search appearances (12) are relatively low, I have yet to reach out to professionals. I hope to expand my professional network shortly through the Business Symposium in October and research assessment interviews.
I have also created my one-pager resume detailing my educational background, skills, certifications, awards, and professional experience. An experience I talked about at length (thankfully in bullet points) was my experience with the solar power startup I have been working on with my partner since the last school year. When writing these points, it made me realize how much I was able to learn from a single experience, and so this reassures me that a mentorship with a professional will be an invaluable experience.
I know I will learn a myriad!
Thank you for reading! I hope to see you back next time.
