Hi, I'm Siri! And welcome to my first blog post! In this post, I will be discussing the start of my Independent Study and Mentorship Program (ISM) journey and how I came to my topic of study: Data Analytics!
It has been almost three weeks since school started and nearly six months since starting my ISM journey. I started my ISM journey by working on my application in early March, from writing my application essay to getting teacher recommendations. It was not till March 28th that I had found out I reached the interview stage. I was incredibly nervous walking into my interview, but as I got comfortable, I pieced my thoughts together and presented them without fear. Fast forward to August, I have realized that ISM is a program where what you put in is what you get, and I hope to maximize this extraordinary opportunity!
Although my journey started a little rough with our first introduction speech, one of the main reasons I took ISM was to gain real-world experience and enhance my public speaking skills. As the year progresses, I hope to gain more confidence in presenting my ideas and hone my communication skills. Each day is getting better, and with that, I have also realized that I have skills that allow me to help others, whether it may be using LinkedIn or creating digital portfolios on multiple platforms such as Wix.
Throughout the past few weeks, I have meticulously researched to come up with a well-thought-out topic of study. I have always been interested in technology, psychology, entrepreneurship, and statistics, so data analytics seemed the most logical place to start. As a result, I have started my research in the vast field of data analytics, starting with the fundamentals to learn the various applications of data analytics and which industry to explore.
One of the biggest things I can take away from the past few weeks is how much there is to learn and how that no matter you can improve, as life and personal development start at the end of your comfort. I am well aware of the challenges I will face throughout this journey, but I am motivated to improve, even if that means putting myself in unfamiliar situations.
Thank you for reading! I hope to see you back next time.
